When someone finds your business on Google, the photos are often the first thing they look at after the name. They show what the place looks like, what the work looks like and whether the business seems active. A gallery with three blurry shots from several years ago tells a stranger very little, and none of it good.
Photos are also one of the easiest parts of a profile to fix. You do not need a photographer or special equipment. A recent phone and twenty minutes of attention will cover most of what a customer wants to see.
See what is there now
Open your profile the way a customer would, on a phone, and scroll through the photos. Note which ones are yours and which were added by customers. Customer photos can be helpful, but they can also show a bad angle, an old sign or a product you no longer sell. You cannot always remove them, but you can add enough good, current photos that they are not the main impression.
Check the cover and logo images too. They appear in more places than the rest of the gallery, and an outdated logo or a dark exterior shot is worth replacing first.
What to photograph this month
Aim for photos that answer the questions a new customer has before they call or visit:
- The outside of your building or your vehicles, so people recognize you when they arrive.
- The entrance and parking, if customers come to you.
- The inside, taken in daylight and tidied up first.
- Your team at work, with their permission.
- Finished jobs or products, showing the kind of work you most want more of.
Take them in good light, hold the phone level and skip heavy filters. Real, plain photos are more convincing than polished ones that look like stock images. If you have seasonal decorations up, a photo or two is fine, but keep the core of the gallery useful all year.
A customer looking at your photos is trying to picture doing business with you. Give them something to picture.
Keep it current with a small routine
The hard part is not the first upload. It is remembering to add more. A simple habit works better than an annual push: add two or three new photos each month, whenever a job turns out well or something changes at your location. Put it on the same list as checking your hours and answering questions.
Photos sit alongside the rest of your profile, and they work best when everything else is accurate too. If you have not reviewed the whole profile recently, Google Business Profile 101 walks through each section and what it is for. A caption also makes it easier for you to see later which photos are out of date and need replacing.
Name your files and add a short caption where you can
Some places let you add a description, and the photos you post with updates can carry a line of text. Use that space to say plainly what the photo shows, such as a finished patio or the new waiting room. It helps customers understand what they are looking at, and it costs you nothing.

Frequently asked questions
- How many photos should a Google Business Profile have?
- There is no fixed number. Aim for enough that a new customer can see your exterior, entrance, interior, team and typical work, then add a few new ones each month.
- Can I remove photos that customers uploaded?
- Not always. You can report photos that break the platform's rules, but the practical approach is to add enough good, current photos of your own that they become the main impression.
- Do I need professional photos for my business profile?
- No. Clear, well-lit phone photos of the real business are usually more convincing than polished images that look like stock photography.
- How often should I add new photos?
- A few each month is a good habit, plus new photos whenever something changes, such as a renovation, a new vehicle or a new service.
