How Much Does Social Media Marketing Cost?
Management for a local business typically runs $500 to $3,000 a month. What decides it is how much of the content someone else has to make.
Across the market, managed social media for a local business generally costs $500 to $3,000 a month for organic management of one or two platforms. Paid social budget is separate and additional. Content production — photography, video, design — is the variable that moves the number most, and it is frequently quoted separately.
The honest framing for most local businesses is that social rarely originates the sale. It settles a doubt. Someone who found you in search checks whether the account is alive, current and local before calling, and a dormant page undoes some of what the search result just earned. That is a real job, and it is a smaller job than most social proposals describe.
Which means the useful question is not what full-service social costs but what level you actually need. For a trade business, a maintained page with real work posted twice a week is often sufficient and inexpensive. For a restaurant, salon or retailer where discovery genuinely happens in the feed, the investment is larger because the channel is doing more.
What each level buys
These are market ranges — what local businesses across the US typically pay, not a quote. Our own plans are further down and are priced as bundles rather than per service.
Trades, professional services, anyone whose customers check social rather than discover through it.
One or two platforms, consistent posting from material you already generate, profile accuracy, and monitoring for messages and comments. Enough that the account passes the check when someone looks you up.
Businesses where the audience is genuinely engaged and the content earns its place.
Regular original content, community management, local engagement, and reporting tied to something that matters rather than to follower counts.
Food, hospitality, retail, wellness — categories where discovery happens visually.
Ongoing photography and video production, multi-platform publishing, and creative built for a market where the local standard is genuinely high. Production is the cost driver here, not posting.
Six things that decide where you land
How many platforms
Each platform added is more content, more formats and more monitoring. Most local businesses are better served doing one platform properly than three indifferently, and the pricing follows that logic.
Who produces the content
The single largest variable. A business that supplies photographs of its own work pays substantially less than one where a photographer or videographer has to be scheduled.
How often you post
Twice a week sustained beats daily for a month and then silence, and it costs a fraction as much. Frequency is worth setting at a level you can hold indefinitely.
Whether video is involved
Video production is the step change in cost. It performs well in visual categories and is frequently not worth it in categories where the audience is checking credibility rather than browsing.
Whether community management is included
Answering comments and direct messages promptly is real work and genuinely affects outcomes — a lot of local enquiries arrive there and go unanswered for days.
Whether paid amplification is part of it
Social advertising is a separate budget and often a separate fee. It reaches people who are not searching yet, which is useful ahead of a season and wasteful during one.
What the number does not cover
- Ad spendPaid social budget goes to the platform and is separate from management. It should be quoted as its own line with its own fee structure.
- Photography and video productionOften quoted per shoot or per month of production rather than bundled. Ask specifically, because it is the most common gap between a proposal and an invoice.
- Influencer or creator feesWhere a local creator partnership makes sense, their fee is theirs. Agencies coordinate it; they do not usually absorb it.
Where this sits in our plans
Social media management is included in the Vantage plan at $497 a month, with local search, reputation management and the reporting portal, plus a one-time setup fee.
That level is presence and consistency rather than content production — the job of looking current and local when someone checks. Where a business genuinely needs content-led social, that is scoped on top rather than pretended to be included, because a bundled price cannot cover a video crew.

Questions about social media marketing pricing
For most local businesses, one done properly. Facebook where your customers and the local community groups are; Instagram if your work is visual and people compare on appearance. Spreading a small budget across four accounts produces four neglected ones.
Often yes, and it is frequently better — a business posting its own real work is more convincing than agency-produced content. The failure mode is consistency: most self-managed accounts go quiet within three months. If you can hold a modest schedule, do it yourself.
Not followers. Whether enquiries mention finding you there, whether messages get answered, and whether people who check your page before calling still call. Those are harder to report and they are the only numbers that describe what social actually does for a local business.
