Answer Holiday Questions on Your Site for AI Search

AI assistants answer holiday questions from what your website says. Publish your hours, booking cutoffs and gift card details now so they get it right.

4 min read

Every December, customers ask the same handful of questions. Are you open on Christmas Eve? What is the last day to book before the holidays? Do you sell gift cards? More of those questions now go to an AI assistant instead of a phone call, and the assistant answers with whatever it can find. If your website does not say, it guesses, or it names a competitor whose website does.

The fix is simple and takes an afternoon: write the answers down on your own site, in plain words, before the questions start.

Why your website matters to AI answers

AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot and Google's AI Overviews build their answers from what is published about you. Your Google Business Profile and directory listings cover the basics, like regular hours and your address. But they rarely hold the details customers care about in a busy season: booking deadlines, holiday specials, delivery cutoffs, or whether you are taking new customers before January. Your website is the one place you control where all of that can live.

A page that states the answer clearly is much easier for an assistant to use than one that hides it in an image, a PDF menu or a social media post from last year.

The questions worth answering

Start with the questions your staff already hear every season. For most local businesses, the list looks something like this:

  • Holiday hours, day by day, including the days you are closed.
  • The last date to book, order or schedule before the holidays.
  • Whether you sell gift cards or gift certificates, and how to buy them.
  • Any holiday offer, with its start and end dates.
  • How busy you get, and how far ahead customers should plan.
  • When you reopen, or return to normal hours, in January.

If your phone rings with a question more than a few times a week in December, it belongs on this list.

An AI assistant can only repeat what you've written down somewhere it can read.

How to write them so they get picked up

Put the answers in text on a normal page, not in an image or a downloadable file. A short holiday section on your homepage or a dedicated holiday page both work. Write each one as a question followed by a direct answer, the way a customer would ask it: "Are you open on December 24?" followed by "Yes, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m." Include the year and the exact dates, so nobody, human or machine, mistakes this year's hours for last year's.

Then make sure the same details appear everywhere else. Holiday hours on your website should match the special hours on your Google Business Profile. When two sources disagree, an assistant may pick the wrong one. Holiday hours on Google for every location walks through setting those special hours.

Check it, then take it down in January

A week or two after publishing, ask a few AI assistants your holiday questions and see what comes back. Check what AI search says about your business explains how to run that test properly. When the season ends, update or remove the holiday section, so outdated hours are not still being repeated in February.

Frequently asked questions

Where do AI assistants get holiday hours for a business?
From what is published about the business, including its website, Google Business Profile and directory listings. If none of those mention holiday hours, the assistant may guess or leave the business out of its answer.
Should holiday information go on its own page?
Either a dedicated holiday page or a clear section on the homepage works. What matters is that it is written as plain text on a normal page, not inside an image or a PDF.
What holiday questions should a business answer on its website?
Holiday hours by day, the last date to book or order, gift card availability, any holiday offer and its dates, and when normal hours resume in January.
When should I remove holiday information from my website?
Update or remove it as soon as the season ends. Outdated hours left online can keep being repeated by AI assistants well into the new year.
